Why Are These Still Here?

I went back home recently and a decent sized basket was on top of the bathroom sink. This basket has been under the sink for ages, at least 15 years. I looked through it and found a couple things that puzzled me. Why are these things still here?

I cannot remember the last time I took a bubble bath, but I must have used this product:

This Sesame Street Bubble Bath is so old (I will not say the year)! Why is it still here?

I love how it says "Clinically Tested Mild", is that a good thing?!?

I can't remember if I wanted to get a perm or my older sister did and I just wanted to do it too! I also think many people were getting their hair permed or maybe it was advertised in Sassy magazine and thought it would be cool to have curly hair!

We both used the Pro-Perm Loose Curl Rods, which we still have:

It worked perfectly for me because I had awesome wavy hair, unfortunately it only lasted like two days, my hair was too thin and fine. I probably should have use the Medium one.

And then on the other hand, you can find a cute Victoria's Secret make up bag, which I obviously decided to take with me!

But of course what did I do after I looked through the basket? I didn't throw anything away and just put it all back. :)

I recently watched videos on CMT and thought I would share them with you!

I am such a sap! I cried when I watched Rascal Flatts' "Here Comes Goodbye":

After that I needed something that is happier, and Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" video came on and it is super cute!

Ms. Swift seems to know how to make cute videos. This one got nominated for a couple CMT Music Awards for Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year. She also seems to use the boys that are associated with Miley Cyrus in her videos.

It has been a very, very, very long time since I have blogged. Mainly that has to do with the fact that I couldn't think of anything to blog about. And I also stopped looking at videos online and didn't find much of anything on TV that I wanted to share with all of you...until now.

I used to watch Ellen DeGeneres' talk show all the time when it first started, since I was unemployed and of course had nothing better to do than watch TV. Anyway, I randomly taped an episode when she finally nabbed George Clooney, but that isn't the video I am showing you, though you can find it here. The show advertised her birthday episode and so I taped it, or actually DVRed it, I am rarely taping these days...Anyway, I watched it last night and it made me laugh so hard, which is good because the last thing that I wanted was to go to sleep after watching people's brains being liquified on an episode of Fringe, eeewwwww! Anyway, wow I need to stop typing that word, anyw---dang it! Ok so, back to the show. Ellen had a game I guess she does every so often called "Blindfolded Musical Chairs". One of the contestants, I believe her name is Karen (she is the one in the yellow shirt), had me howling with laughter:

When I went a couple of times like 5 years ago I got Simon Cowell's book which I have not read, but I kinda want to. A TV movie that Doris Roberts was in, which I have not seen. And the American Idol Playstation 2 game that I never played because I do not have a Playstation 2!

Agree? Not creepy right? Then why on earth is the video creepy? (I wonder how many times creepy will be said in this blog, hehe).

Why are cupid's arrows killing the happy in love people? Well really only one out of each couple seems to be dying. I find that particularly creepy. I don't know about you.

While finding the video I found another version of the song by a German band, The Bates. They also had a video. While watching it I thought they definitely took the creepy factor to another level.

Okay I know they took their band name from Hitchcock's film Psycho, but did they have to take a love song and create a Silence of the Lambs video? Talk about uber creepy!

I was watching "Best Week Ever" and "The Soup" and both shows had a clip from Tyra's talk show with guests Spencer and Heidi from "The Hills". Now, if you didn't already know how big of an idiot Spencer was well he shows it in the interview.

At around the 4 minute mark you will see what I mean:

Did he just say that? And if I was Tyra I think I would have reacted differently. Oh and Tyra did you just say "perfect couple" to Spencer and Heidi? Are you smoking something?

Anyway, I then checked out Heidi's video that Spencer directed. First off, who told Heidi she could sing? And secondly, could there be some variety in the video?

YouTube is entertaining for so many reasons. You can find TV shows, original content, commercials, etc. But the most entertaining part of YouTube is the comments section. There you find the comedy, the crazy, the over-sharers, and the so-called intelligent. I am the most interested in the first three.

I watched Mariah Carey’s old video “Always Be My Baby” recently and of course it had to do with David Cook’s version on American Idol. BTW, he is too arrogant, but he continues to do great performances so it is hard to hate him. It would be better if he stopped the bowing!

Anyway, I was talking about YouTube comments! I of course watched the video and checked out the comments:

First, the crazy:

So, I am watching American Idol and they are performing songs from when they were born. And of course, all of the contestants are recalling when they first sang or picked up an instrument. For some reason my mind wandered to when my sister and I would record ourselves singing or saying stupid things. Well I recall one time I decided to take a song and replace some words with my own. Really the only part I remember changing is one word. But, at the moment, I cannot find that cassette tape or else there would be more than one word changed.

Let me just preface this by saying I was really young and you know some things are really funny when you are young. So, you remember that Atlantic Starr song "Masterpiece"? The chorus is:

I've found a masterpiece in you

And I treasure you my love

I think when I was making up the new word I combined the first two lines. So my version went like this: I've found the master fart in you

I know classy huh? I remember my sister vividy saying on the tape "You're stupid!" She was so loving, but so so true. It was stupid, but hey for your enjoyment I found the music video!

I saw a music video this afternoon that was cute, happy, fun, hoppy and just enjoyable. I bet many of you aren't even going to click on it because I am saying that it's a country song. Maybe if I say it is Carrie Underwood you would be more inclined? Yes, no? Oh whatever, like I care watch it if you want!

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Sarah Silverman was one of the guests. I decided to watch for a little bit, it was taking her a while to get to her point so I almost turned off the television to go to bed. And I am so glad I didn't! Because what resulted was awesome!

It was so awesome I FELL on the floor laughing so hard!

Can you sing the next line?

That line just popped into my head one day. Why was that? I have no frickin' clue. I haven’t heard that song in a long time and I couldn’t even place it. But, Mr. Google (yes, we are formal) helped me out and said the song was by the band Mr. Big (no, we are not formal).

By the way, I know its originator is Cat Stevens, but I am more familiar with Mr. Big’s version.

Anyway, enter youtube and its awesomeness! I had to re-familiarize myself with Mr. Big so I watched “To Be With You”, the best song from 1992! Okay, so maybe it wasn’t but it is in my top songs of that year! Here it is:

Now, I just am wondering a few things about this video…why does it change from black and white to color? Was there something special in the lyrics to make that transition? And one more thing why does the guy with the tambourine have better hair than anyone else? Because the lead singer seems to have gotten his hair styling tips from Tiffany:

In 1993, Mr. Big covered “Wild World” and made a video. This time they got a little more adventurous:

Again, I have comments. It has been most likely over a year since the last video, why on earth did the lead singer not cut his hair? Is it rock ‘n roll to keep it that way? Why all the crazy use of the green screen? Oh and if the song is about saying goodbye to your significant other, why would you put nature clips in the video? Is it because of the phrase "it’s a wild world"? I have a feeling it doesn’t mean animals and flowers.

I really do not like how reality has seeped into the new "American Gladiators". I do not need to have a full background on the contestants. I could care less. I used to watch for the games and the gladiators! The gladiators are who I wouldn't mind a background check on. I loved Nitro in the original...that or he is the one I only truly remember.

I did not realize that all I had to do was kidnap a random guy in a cafe at gunpoint and take him to my crazy family's Christmas get together to fall in love!

At first the guy will try to get away from my crazy ass, then he will just accept the fact he has to go along with the charade (but still want to get away from me), which finally leads to the guy caring about my secret pain! But it doesn't end there! After I get arrested for kidnapping, which the guy will not press charges, he will eventually (after 2 months) cancel his wedding and then kidnap me to tell me he has fallen in love with me! It so works!

Why didn't I take ABC Family movies seriously all these years?!?

Oh and if you are wondering, yes, I actually did kinda like the movie! Come on Kyle Howard was in it!Haha!

I also liked the other Christmas movie that was on two weeks ago, it had plow guy from Men In Trees!

Sometimes people say the wrong things at the wrong time. Of course it is oh so hilarious!

A woman and a man are talking to each other. At one point another woman comes up and joins the conversation.

Woman #2: I wish I was in a wheelchair. (I am guessing she was tired from walking)

Two seconds later, a man in a wheelchair wheels himself through and crosses the street.

Woman #1 and Man start laughing hysterically.
Woman #2: That didn't just happen did it? I can't believe that just happened!
Man: Dude, that was like from a movie!
Woman #2: I can't beleieve that just happened! (repeated over and over again)

I had to bite my lip so hard to not laugh.

Regarding this previous Sunday:

You know God, I get it you have a sense of humor, but you could have used a different "sign" to tell me not to go to church. Instead you decided to send a big truck to take me down.

Yes, I realize I have been playing the field and trying out all the churches around me. But hey, I have got to feel comfortable in a church and if that means looking for the church with the cutest guys than I shall not be judged! I am still going and paying attention (most of the time). I should get some credit. And now you have put me in a position to walk to church, thank goodness there is one about a mile away.

Anyway, I am totally fine, I thank you greatly for that.

Why are game shows so addicting?

I blame my obsession on the Game Show Network (now GSN)when I was in college. My addiction started as I was channel surfing at 1:00 or so in the morning. Yes, I know what you are all thinking, I was such the party animal! I think it was also combined with the fact I could stay up however long I wanted and my dad wouldn't come and find me watching tv at odd hours of the night and yell at me to go to bed. Hey, if I am not tired what is the point of sleeping then, right? I may have some form of insomnia...which reminds me I have that Stephen King book called Insomnia. I haven't finished a book in a while maybe I should start reading that one? Although that may make me more of an insomniac. Since it would keep me up at night thinking about some weird scary person in the book attacking me. As a result, I would have to find room in the freezer like I did with The Shining...

Anyway, let me get back on track.

So, it was early in the morning and I stopped on the Game Show Network where I found my two absolute favorite black and white classic game shows and hosts as well.

Without further ado, here are my top 3 Game Shows and their hosts!

1) Password - the original 1960's version hosted by Allen Ludden. Ludden was an awesome host and he was even awesomer by the fact that he was married to Betty White. And, if you're a fan, you know it isn't Password without Betty White! Unfortunately, there are no video clips, that I can find, of the original Password, so here is a clip of one of the updated versions, called Password Plus, which was also hosted by Allen Ludden:

Can't wait to see what they do with Million Dollar Password! Though I am not sure about Regis as the host.

2) What's My Line? - the classy game show in which the dignified John Daly hosted a panel of celebrities who guessed people's occupations through a series of questions they asked. They would also have a Mystery Guest come on where the panel would be blind-folded and see if they could guess who the person was. 3) Match Game - the 70's version which was hosted by Gene Rayburn, one of the funniest hosts I have ever seen. The antics on this show, especially from regulars like Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly, always made me laugh and the questions were awesomely ridiculous!

Just Two Old Ladies

Stephanie and I were talking about our parents' retirements (now or in the future). This led me to say that at the rate I am going I will never be able to retire. I will be that old lady at McDonalds taking your order with a snotty early twenty-something manager breathing down my neck. Then, Stephanie added "and I will be right there working next to you!" Glad to know I will be in fast food misery with a friend!

Anyway, we would also have to be careful about our expenses. Like, maybe we could find three college bound kids to take us to the grocery store because the store closer to where we live has higher prices. The injustice of it all!

Today at work Stephanie had many Beatles songs stuck in her head. It is all Across the Universe's fault. But, I really didn't mind because I like the Beatles.

Eventually, I was looking at other videos and ran into this one:

1) What is with the top hat that JC is wearing?
2) Why is there a clown? I hate clowns.
3) What does the video have to do with the song?
4) Why are Marc and Dale in the video when they really aren't doing anything?

They should put MMC episodes back on the Disney Channel.

Not Your Average Adventure Movie

I saw an early screening of “Into The Wild” on Saturday at the Paramount Studios because I am fabulous! Hahaha, actually it's because I worked on the film for a couple of months as a Production Assistant. Alas, I never went on set because the set was always somewhere else.

Here is a little plot synopsis if you are unfamiliar with the story: “Into The Wild” (written and directed by Sean Penn) is a tragic true story of Christopher McCandless (aka Alexander Supertramp), who after appeasing his parents, by graduating college at Emory University, he decided to leave his worldly possessions and family behind and venture out into the wild.

Anyway, I am proud to report that the movie was great. The whole cast was amazing. Emile Hirsch was riveting. Hal Holbrook made an Oscar worthy (supporting actor) performance that was hilarious and heartbreaking. Vince Vaughn was enjoyable. Catherine Keener was touching. Thure Lindhardt and Signe Egholm Olsen played a Danish couple who were side-splittingly comical. I suggest you go see it if you just love movies, if you like emotionally driven movies, if you like independent movies, if you like the book, or if you like true tragic stories. Don’t go see it if you are into happy endings, because this movie is not one of those.

If you know me, the real reason to see the movie is for my name in the credits! You can’t miss it, it’s like the longest line ever! Hahahaha!

There is a little controversy regarding McCandless. People either view him as stupid or dumb or unsympathetic (I mean, he did leave his whole family and didn't tell them where he was going), others as an inspiration, but I choose to view him as naive. A young man who did not properly research the area of Alaska he was camping at. And the fact he was too caught up in his own hatred toward his parents that he realized too late what love is. This is what I took from the film, someone not to be inspired by, but to learn from.

After the movie, Sean Penn (with Emile off to the side) thanked all the people who worked on the film as he lovingly said (I am paraphrasing a little here, can’t remember the exact quote) “Thanks for everyone who worked on this film, I will see you all over at the booze.” I decided not to partake in the boozing (being designated driver and all), but I did partake in the desserts.

Oh Britney...

I did not watch the VMA's, but I did find Britney Spear's performance online and I really have no words. Britney used to be a very good performer. I liked her. My friend, Stephanie, and I were talking about how embarrassed we were for Britney and then she mention that Britney should have said yes to Justin Timberlake's performance proposal. I totally agreed. Especially when Stephanie mentioned the VMA performance that happened like 6 or so years ago that NSYNC and Britney did. I remember watching that performance and saying how awesome it was and then continually watching it over and over again (because of course I taped it):

Britney actually looked like she loved dancing and she even lipsynced pretty well! Now, in 2007 she looked lifeless and uninterested. Britney get some help! I like the song, it's catchy!

Amusements During Church

Here is a little dialogue between a Mom and her adorable (3 year old?) son, which I later learned his name was Zack (which I dunno what spelling it is Zack Morris or Zach Gilford? I'll go with Morris):

Zack: Mom, I wanna donut.
Mom: After mass.
Zack: Is it gonna be done in a minute?
Mom shakes her head no.

This all took place within the first 5 minutes of mass. This kid needed to realize there is at least 55 more minutes until he could get that donut.

If he does get the donut hopefully he doesn't get it all over his face like this:

After the donut talk he continued coloring in his Dora the Explorer coloring book.

Zack then decides to place a bunch of stickers on top of one of the coloring book pages. He just keeps taking sticker after sticker and piling them in just one section of the page. He had a plethora of stickers such as shiny cars, Shrek, Dora the Explorer, SpiderMan, and my personal favorite Thomas the Tank Engine.

Which reminds me did anyone watch Shining Time Station? I remember Ringo Starr as the Conductor.

Anyway, later on with the weekly offering Zack is all excited to put the money in the basket. After he does so, he follows the basket until he can't see it anymore. I remember doing that with my mother when I was younger, being the one to put the envelope in the basket was so cool. Why was that? And was it to teach us anything? Like putting money in the basket for the church made you feel good so you will do it when you get older? Well I can attest to you that it doesn't because I don't have any extra money to give to the church after my rent and bills. And really I would rather buy Friday Night Lights on DVD.

The church I go to is also a school, so at the end of Mass there are a few students who read their "why they like St. Whatever School". They don't do this every weekend, just when it is give money to the school weekend. I have heard a few of these over the past 3 years and they always make me chuckle. Here are some highlights:

A 6th grade girls likes her school because of the "kind and considerate staff" (something tells me she didn't write this all by herself) and she also likes the school because she has a lot of friends "and [she] never feels dumb".

A third grade boy likes the school because it is "fun to play different computer games in computer class" and he "likes going to the library because [he] likes reading books". I like the fact he likes to read!

Usually the students say they like recess or the food, which is funny because who usually likes their school cafeteria food? Wow, I am writing a lot of "likes" in this entry.

Of course, the fact that I am making fun of kids, not paying attention during Mass, and wanting to buy TV DVDs instead of giving money to the church means I am definitley going to Hell now, aren't I!?

Selfishness

I was listening to Star 98.7 this morning and it dealt with women deciding to have a kid without a man. The beginning made me more upset than what you can listen to on the site. It is called Single Motherhood.

It would be great if women decided to adopt if they wanted to have kids, but I understand there are women who want to give birth. Either way a woman should not be called "selfish" for wanting a child. Yes, a father is important, but if a woman wants a child and is prepared for it (as much as you can be) she should be able to.

The issue of "selfishness" reminds me of a Joeyism on FRIENDS where he explains to Phoebe that all people are selfish. And I tend to agree with him:

Anything you do that makes you feel good is selfish, so all you couples who have kids you are selfish, let a woman (or a man) who wants to have a kid be selfish too.

Brandon Tartikoff

I recently found out it has been 10 years to the day that Brandon Tartikoff died. For you non-tv loving watchers, who do not pay attention to who runs what...he was the head of NBC's entertainment division mainly in the 1980's.

NBC was in it's worst shape during that time and he turned the network around and ended up with five shows in the Nielsen top 10 before he left the position in 1991. He brought many great shows to the network and here are some: Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, ALF, Family Ties, The Cosby Show, Cheers, Miami Vice, The Golden Girls, Knight Rider, The A-Team, St. Elsewhere, Night Court, Highway to Heaven, Matlock, Remington Steele, A Different World, 227 and Empty Nest.<----Thanks for that Wiki!

He also helped develop Punky Brewster, so very awesome:

The Wonder Years

This show is on every week day on the ION (used to be PAX) station. The show always makes me smile and nostalgic whenever I watch it. I really wish it would come out on DVD with all the original music (because really the music is majorly important). Who Hates Clowns?

I watched the latest episode of General Hospital: Night Shift (it's bad, but I continue to watch) last night and I didn't appreciate the crazy clown that had the sympton of uncontrollable laughter. I did find it funny that the character, Spinelli, had the same reaction I would have had.

Might want to fast forward like two minutes to see what I mean:

I have never really liked clowns but ever since I saw It I just can't ::shudder:: I just can't look at them without my skin crawling!

It is only 37 seconds but it scares me to death! You know what is really sick though I have seen the movie twice and actually want to see it again. Man, there were so many things I was terrified to do by myself after seeing that movie.

I love Stephen King books, but it is going to take me awhile to read "It".

Oh and if I ever meet Ross the Intern I will never be able to step foot in his home office .

One Reason You Should Watch "Friday Night Lights"

So I finally read Bricks Explode's The Top Ten Supporting Characters on Television and saw Jesse Plemons on the list. This led me to look up clips from the tv show "Friday Night Lights". Oh how I love this show and Jesse Plemons' character, Landry. He is a big reason why I watch. (My main reason though is Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton's fabulous chemistry.)

Anyway, back to Landry! The character has made me laugh so much. When he mentioned that he was forming a Christian speed metal band called Crucifictorious I was rolling on the floor, especially since he wanted to name the band Stigmatalingus. He was overruled though! If you do not know what Christian speed metal sounds like watch this clip and fast forward to the 4:26 mark:
